What to Expect at Your First Network Spinal Session

If you've been reading about Network Spinal Care and feel genuinely curious but also a little uncertain about what you're actually walking into, this is for you.

That uncertainty is completely understandable. Network Spinal is different from most people's idea of chiropractic, and "different" can feel harder to picture than a more familiar treatment. So here's a plain, honest description of what a first visit at WellWellWell actually involves, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

Before you arrive

There's nothing complicated to prepare. Wear comfortable clothing. You'll remain fully clothed throughout. The session takes place on a padded table, so avoid anything restrictive around your spine or lower back if you can. Loose layers work well.

If you've filled in the intake form online beforehand, great. If not, allow a few extra minutes when you arrive to complete it. The form covers your health history, what's brought you in, and any previous experience with Chiropractic or other care.

The initial consultation

Your first visit is longer than subsequent ones, typically around 45 to 60 minutes in total, because it begins with a thorough conversation.

Dr Euan will take time to understand what's brought you in, what you've already tried, how your body has been responding to stress and demand over time, and what you're hoping for. This isn't a brief intake. It's a genuine attempt to understand your situation before any assessment or hands-on work begins.

This is also a good opportunity to ask questions. If you're unsure about the approach, the process, or what to expect from ongoing care, the first visit is exactly the right time to raise all of it.

The assessment

Following the consultation, Dr Euan will assess your spine and nervous system. This typically involves observing how your body holds and distributes tension, checking spinal movement and posture, and palpating specific areas of the spine to identify where tension patterns are being held and how the nervous system is organising them.

The assessment is gentle and unhurried. Nothing will be done without explanation.

Your first entrainment

An entrainment is the term used for a Network Spinal session. You'll lie fully clothed on the padded table, typically face down to begin, though this varies.

Dr Euan will make a series of gentle, precisely placed contacts along your spine, primarily at the sacrum (the base of the spine) and the upper neck. These contacts are light, sometimes almost imperceptible, but they are specific and intentional. They act as cues to the nervous system rather than forces applied to the bones.

You don't need to do anything in particular. There's no breath work required, no effort to relax. The nervous system responds to the contacts in its own way, in its own time. Some people notice a wave of breath moving through the spine, a sense of release, warmth, or a subtle shift in how the body feels. Others notice very little on the first visit and find the effects emerge over the hours or days that follow. Both are normal.

A first entrainment typically lasts around 15 to 20 minutes. There is no cracking, no manipulation, and no discomfort.

After the session

Before you leave, Dr Euan will share his findings with you, what he observed in the assessment, what he noticed during the entrainment, and what he thinks is worth addressing going forward.

He'll give you an honest picture of what he believes care can offer in your situation, what a reasonable course of sessions might look like, and what the fees involve. There's no pressure to commit to anything on the day. The first visit is genuinely about understanding your situation.

You're welcome to take time to think about it, ask further questions by email, or simply book when you feel ready.

What people often notice afterward

In general terms, the period following a first entrainment can feel different for different people. Some notice a sense of ease or lightness that wasn't there before. Some feel a little tired as the body integrates the session. Some feel nothing in particular immediately and notice a difference in sleep that night or movement the following day.

None of these responses is more correct than another. The nervous system is doing something with what it received, and that process unfolds in its own way.

How many sessions will I need?

This is one of the most common questions people have before coming in, and it's worth being honest about.

There is no universal answer. What Dr Euan can offer is an honest assessment after your first session, based on what he observes in your spine and nervous system, your history, and what you are hoping for.

In general terms, people with more recent or specific concerns may see meaningful changes over a shorter course of care. People with longer standing patterns or higher overall nervous system load typically benefit from a more sustained period.

What most people find is that the first three to five sessions tend to reveal the trajectory: how the body is responding, what is shifting, and what a reasonable ongoing plan looks like. That makes the first visit the best starting point for a more specific conversation.

You can read more about how the care typically progresses on the Network Care Process page.

Fees and health fund cover

First visits are longer than subsequent sessions, reflecting the time involved in the initial consultation and assessment. Subsequent session fees are shorter and priced accordingly.

Most major Australian health funds cover chiropractic care at WellWellWell Sydney. If you have extras cover with chiropractic included, you will typically be able to claim a rebate. The amount depends on your individual policy and level of cover.

Dr Euan's practice is AHPRA-registered.

A note on what this care is, and isn't

Network Spinal is not a quick fix for a specific symptom, and it's worth being clear about that from the beginning. It works at the level of how the nervous system organises tension and stress, which means the changes tend to be cumulative and progressive rather than immediate and isolated.

For people who are used to treatment models focused on a single complaint, this can take a small shift in perspective. The Network Care Process page goes into more detail on how the approach works and what the progression of care typically looks like.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to book a first visit?

No. You can book directly online or by phone. No GP referral is needed.

Is Network Spinal Care painful?

No. The contacts used are gentle, sometimes almost imperceptible. Most people describe the experience as calming rather than physically intense. If at any point you are uncomfortable, you can say so and the session will be adjusted immediately.

How long does a first visit take?

Allow 45 to 60 minutes for your first visit. This includes the initial consultation, the assessment, and your first entrainment. Subsequent sessions are typically 15 to 20 minutes.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You remain fully clothed throughout the session. Avoid anything restrictive around your spine, lower back or neck if possible.

Can I come if I have never been to a chiropractor before?

Absolutely. Many people who come to WellWellWell Sydney have no prior experience with Chiropractic care. The first visit includes a thorough explanation of what will happen, and nothing takes place without your understanding and consent. The approach is particularly well-suited to people who have felt uncertain about Chiropractic in the past.

What if I am not sure whether this is right for me?

The first visit is specifically designed to help you answer that question. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing care on the day. Dr Euan will give you an honest assessment of what he observes and what he thinks is realistic for your situation, and you can take as much time as you need to decide whether to continue.
